One person was rushed to hospital this morning with serious injuries after two workers fell from an under-construction townhome project in South Surrey.
WorkSafe BC spokesperson Megan Johnston said investigators are on the scene – at 160 Street and 32 Avenue – to determine how the incident occurred.
It happened around 10:15 a.m.
Johnston said preliminary information is that the injured pair were doing framing work at a residential site. One was working on the project's exterior and fell approximately 30 feet to the ground; the other, who was working inside, fell about 10 feet, she said.
It is unclear at this point what caused the pair to fall, if the falls were the result of a single incident, or whether appropriate fall-protection was in place.
"That's why our officers have responded," Johnston said. "They're looking to identify what, if any, violations there may have been… and if there is any imminent risk to workers at the worksite currently."
WorkSafe regulations require employers to ensure a fall-protection system is in place for any work being done at an elevation above 10 feet, Johnston said.
The worker most-seriously injured in Tuesday's incident was rushed to Royal Columbian Hospital. Johnston said the second worker did not go to hospital.
