Police are investigating a suspicious death at this home in Surrey Thursday (May 3) afternoon.

Police have identified the victim of last week's fatal shooting as 21-year-old Noel Jackson.

Police received a 911 call to a home near 70 Avenue and 124 Street last Thursday (May 3) and arrived to find the young man shot to death inside a basement suite.

Police say Jackson is new to the Lower Mainland and has a criminal record in Ontario.

There was speculation the death may have been gang related, but the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says that doesn't appear to be the case.

“Although the investigation is early and the motive for this homicide is still not clear, investigators do not believe this killing is connected to the current gang conflict, “ said IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Jennifer Pound.

Officers continue to canvass the area and speak to neighbours and witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to call 1-877-551-4448 or email ihittipline@rcmp-grc.gc.ca. If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or leave a tip at Solvecrime.ca

Jackson's murder marks Surrey's sixth of the year.
