The RCMP’s forensic identification unit is on the scene after a car fire Friday morning in the downtown Safeway parking lot.

Chilliwack firefighters responded to the car fire just after 7 a.m. in the parking lot at First Avenue and Cheam Avenue.

Early reports were that the vehicle appeared to be abandoned, and there is no word on if anyone was inside but by 8:30 a.m. there was a blue tarp over the vehicle, a tent over that, and investigators on the scene.

Firefighters quickly doused the blaze, but not before the vehicle was completely gutted.

Chilliwack RCMP have yet to say if the vehicle had been stolen, but the area was quickly put behind police tape.
