Following through on an election promise of more open government, White Rock Mayor Wayne Baldwin has released a slew of resolutions from closed council meetings held between March 2009 and Dec. 31, 2011.
All 26 of the items – released at the Feb. 6 council meeting – were regarding negotiations around the Centre for Active Living/Peace Arch Curling Club project. They included that council must approve the final name for the centre; and that certain reports – including one on naming rights and another titled '2010 Year-End Surplus' – remain permanently closed.
Baldwin had promised in his inaugural speech Dec. 6 that pre-scheduled closed meetings would be off the city's agenda going forward.
In releasing the resolutions, Baldwin said the list – which covered three double-sided pages of the night's agenda – "shows the diligence of council" in dealing with the project.
"It was a complex process," he said.
Coun. Helen Fathers, who participated in the closed sessions, agreed.
"I think we served the community well in making sure we crossed the t's and dotted the i's," she said.
