A 3.5 hectare wildfire burning in a cut block east of Squamish is still ‘out of control,’ according to the BC Wildfire Service.

“It’s very small and we’re putting lots of resources on it,” said Coastal Fire Centre information assistant Dorthe Jakobsen.

The blaze, which was discovered at 5:50 p.m. Sunday night, has two initial attack crews, a fire investigator, 10 contractors, two fallers and excavator and air support via air tankers.

Although it is 13 kilometres away from Squamish, the fire is close to homes and utilities.

“We’re aware that there is a power station, a small community and a trail head nearby but they’re not threatened,” said Jakobsen. The community, called Ring Road, is made up of about 45 homes.
