MIDDELAER: Alexa Renée entered our world on October 9, 2003 in Oakville, Ontario. This loving child brought joy to the lives of her immediate family: Parents Laurel and Michael and her wonderful big brother, Christian James. She was surrounded by an amazing group of extended family who adored her: Grandparents John and Yvette Middelaer, Lyla Stevens of Calgary, Robert and Avaleen Gibson of Edmonton, Aunts and Uncles including Lynne and Gary Gleave, Bernie and Melissa Redlich, all from Calgary, Glen Gibson and Pam McConnell, Conni Gibson, all from Toronto, John Middelaer (Sally Anne) from Victoria, Daphne Middelaer and Guy Johanson from Vancouver, Great Uncle John Doherty from Calgary, Cousins Jenna, Jordan, Shonara, Breanne and Jessica. Alexa's network of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends stretched across Canada as she spent the majority of her life in the Toronto area, and most recently in the Lower Mainland. This little cherub has certainly left her mark on all those who were blessed to have known her. Alexa possessed an amazing strength of character that could be simply stated as 'confidence'. Fiercely determined with little room for self doubt, she inspired her family with this self-belief. She took delight in everything, and embraced life with vigour and zeal. She adored her brother, Christian, who is largely responsible for the amazing girl that she was. Alexa was inspired by a challenge, and keeping up with Christian prompted her to achieve incredible heights in such a short time. A celebration of Alexa's life will be held this Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 11:00 am at the Bell Centre for the Performing Arts, 6250- 144th Street, Surrey, BC. There will be a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Children's Hospital. So many individuals have made a positive difference in this time of loss. We specifically want to thank the outstanding team of physicians, nurses and social worker, Perry Goertzen, at BC Children's Hospital, the wisdom and guidance of Rev. Dr. Glen Davis, and the steadfast, deliberate support of our best friends, Dr. R. James and Mrs. Fay Bond. One could never find better people than the Bonds. Little Alexa rightly adored them.
