Alexander Andrascik

Alexander, 77, passed away on July 2, 2006, while awaiting heart bypass surgery at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, BC.


Born January 4th 1929 in Kamenica Czechoslovakia, Alex immigrated to Canada at the age of 9. He joined the RCMP in March 1951 and, three months later, married Shirley LeClaire. In 1952 he joined the Vancouver City Police Department where he rose through the ranks to Inspector. In 1974 he was called upon, by the Ministry of the Attorney General, British Columbia, to help develop the 'Coordinated Law Enforcement Unit' (CLEU) - a joint forces effort created to fight organized crime. He served at CLEU until his retirement in 1987. An amazing athlete and avid sports fan, he continued to play hockey until only a few months prior to his death. In 1991, he was inducted into the International Hockey Hall of Fame.


Survived by his loving wife, Shirley, children Debbie (Ra), Greg (Sheila), Adele, Joanne (John) and grandchildren Vanessa, Dylan, Morgan, Connor, brothers Roy (Ruby), Steve (Roxanne), sister Betty (Ed) and countless friends and teammates.
