January 20, 1938 - May 21, 2025
With deep sadness and love, we share that Arleen Mar passed away peacefully at home, just weeks before she and her beloved husband Jack would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
Born and raised in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, Arleen was the twelfth of thirteen children in a warm and lively family. From an early age, she developed a spirited sense of competition and a love for sports—excelling in ice skating, curling, horseback riding, skiing, and even coaching hockey. Her intelligence and drive led her to pursue business school, where she specialized in comptometer machines—a skill that paved the way for her successful career in banking and corporate administration. It was during her time at Woodward's that she met the love of her life, Jack. Arleen was also a gifted storyteller and family historian. She authored two books that captured the richness of her heritage and upbringing: "Thompson 84", a tribute to her Norwegian roots, and "12th of 13", a heartfelt memoir of her life growing up on the family farm in Saskatchewan.
Family was the center of Arleen's world. She found joy in every holiday, birthday, and reunion, always ensuring there was time to gather, celebrate, and create memories. She had a deep and lasting love for travel, exploring places like Norway, China, France, Australia, the Caribbean, and more. But it was Hawaii—where she and Jack honeymooned—that held a special place in her heart, calling her back again and again through the years.
Arleen leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. She is survived by her devoted husband Jack, her children Kevin (Gwen) and Coreen (Steve), and her cherished grandchildren Kendall and Colin.
