March 6, 1943 - April 28, 2019
Barry will be dearly missed by his family, Trudi (Kevin), Pauline, Rory (Alice), grandchildren Emmett and Sidney and long-time partner Sheila. He will also be missed by his siblings Alice, Michael (Miriam), David (Claire) and nephews Karl, Finn and Cian.
Barry was born in Dublin, Ireland on March 6, 1943. In 1967, at the age of 24, he emigrated to Canada and made a home in Vancouver. In 1975 he began working as an instrumentation
technician for Western Systems Controls - where he would later become Vice President and Director. He found great joy in mentoring apprentices and also had the opportunity to work across Canada, and oversee projects in China and Indonesia.
Barry was a craftsman. He enjoyed carving, making jewelry and building anything mechanical - including compact steam engines. He also built two wooden sea-going kayaks that he would use with great enthusiasm. From an early age he developed a passion for travel and was also an avid gardener, stamp collector and reader. A farewell gathering will be held at a later date.
