Benjamin Bennett SQUIRES

July 18, 2007

Squires, Benjamin Bennett

March 4, 1928 – July 18, 2007

It is with great love and deep sorrow that the family of Ben Squires announces his passing on July 18 in Surrey, B.C. Ben was born in Scott, Saskatchewan and after a lengthy career with the CPR, retired in Swift Current in 1985. Tired of the long winters, Ben moved to Whiterock in 1986 where he spent the ‘best years of his life’. Since discovering Softball City in Surrey, softball became his true passion and every spring and summer could be found at the ballpark. Ben became a fixture at the park, offering his knowledge and love of the game to the coaches, players and parents who welcomed him as one of their own, including inviting him on trips to many out of town tournaments. Ben is survived by his 4 children Hal (Evelyn), Kim (Mike), Scott (Donna) and Todd (Sharon), 11 grandchildren, brother John in Swift Current and sister Anne in Banff.

A Memorial Gathering was held at the Cloverdale Legion on July 21. A ‘Ben Squires Scholarship Fund’ will be created to honour the love and support he has shown the many teams at Softball City.
