Bernard Allen Service left us while sleeping peacefully on May 4th, 2021. He was eighty-one years old. Bernie will forever be remembered for his love of projects and hobbies, his sense of adventure, his wry sense of humour and his dedication to those around him.
Bernie was never one to back down from a challenge. Professionally, he was known as a no-nonsense leader in his field. His expertise provided him opportunities to travel throughout the world, which he embraced.
Bernie was a doer and got things done! If he wasn't doing, he was researching what to do next. His many passions included the outdoors, hobby farming, motorcycles and cars, historical ship restoration, boating, particularly sailing the open waters, volunteering in Mexican orphanages, film and photography, and fitness for people with Parkinson's Disease, to name a few.
The passion that took priority over every other was the people in his life. One way you knew he loved you was by how much he teased you. If you were teased by him, you meant something to him.
Celebrate him. Pour yourself a glass of your favourite and then add a bit more. That's how Bernie liked it. Rich and full, like his life.
Bernie's wife of 55 years, Rosemary passed two years ago. He is survived by his sister, Marion Pavan; daughter, Kristi MacGillivray (John); son, Steve Service (Tik); grandchildren Tamerra Geldrich (Kevin) and Sean Loughlin (Amanda); great-grandchildren Lily and Luke, loved in-laws Dan Pavan, Sharon Speirs, a niece, three nephews and their families.
