1927-2022 ~ Betty was born in Saskatoon, only child of Harold Esmond Bruce and Veronica Brown (nee Mungo), moved to Vancouver, BC at age 12 and later raised her children, Terry, Leslie and Laura (Dave) with 1st husband Thomas Edward O'Brien.
She worked at raising her family, Birks Jewelers and UBC Alumni Association and loved the outdoors, walking, swimming, skating, skiing, tennis and badminton. Betty lived many happy years with 2nd husband, Edwin Alfred Oben ("Bud") sailing the Salish Sea and perfecting their golf games at Capilano Golf & Country Club - she was very proud of her 2 Hole in One trophies!
Many fun times were had at blended family dinners with Bud's children, Joanne (Alex) and Grant (Elizabeth) and in their later years they moved to White Rock and traded in the sailboat for a 5th wheel spending a decade as snowbirds in the US southwest.
Betty was a positive force in the world, kind, upbeat and gracious, a fabulous cook and could play a mean game of bridge. People enjoyed her good nature, positive attitude and style. She made many friends among her neighbours and the Probus club ladies.
We will miss this vibrant, kind, beautiful woman and she will live on in our hearts and memories and in her 5 grandchildren, Tomi (Evan), Rex (Carly), Titta (Brendan), Boyo and Emmett, and great-grandchildren Lokelani and Kekoa.
