February 18, 1961 - July 1, 2024
Brian Wayne Woznikoski, born February 18, 1961, peacefully passed away on July 1, 2024, at the age of 63 after a courageous three and a half year battle with brain cancer. Brian embraced life fully, treasuring moments with loved ones, exploring his favorite destinations, and creating lasting memories every day. His absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him.
Brian's love and devotion extended to his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife Rhonda, sons Joel (Ujena) and Chad (Bryn), granddaughter Mika, and former wife Carole. Wayne and Cathy (father and mother) spent summers in Osoyoos where Brian enjoyed many hours on the family boat, developing genuine relationships, including with his sister Terri. Known for his organizational skills, generosity and warmth, Brian ensured that others could focus on creating amazing memories and always made them feel important.
Hailing from Surrey, BC, Brian's foundation in family, friendship, loyalty, and teamwork shaped his path to a fulfilling career in the fire service. Joining the Surrey Fire Service at 19 in 1980, Brian dedicated 37 years to serving the community before retiring in 2017 as Assistant Chief. His unwavering dedication and passion shone bright. Sadly, Brian's cancer, linked to his firefighting career, is recognized as a line of duty death.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Brian played hockey in Surrey and Delta then contributed to his community through Semiahmoo Minor Hockey. During his years coaching, Brian positively influenced many lives and developed enduring friendships. His dedication to service and caring nature will be remembered by many.
Our family wishes to extend our immense gratitude to Brian's devoted teams at BC Cancer Agency, White Rock Home Health, and Melville Hospice. You provided hope and comfort during some very difficult times. A service to commemorate Brian's extraordinary journey is being planned for the fall, a fitting tribute to a life lived with purpose and dedication. Brian would encourage those who knew him to get outside, do something fun, and have a margarita in his honour. Brian will be missed but always remembered.
