Carla Gloria Simpson

Carla Gloria Simpson, age 94, died peacefully at the White Rock Hospice. She was a lively and warm-hearted lady, with a great sense of humour, a love of music, homemade food (was a great cook), a wonderful hostess, and an intense gardener. She was loved by her friends, of whom there were many all over the world.
Carla travelled extensively throughout her life and was meticulous about keeping in touch with those she cared about. After coming to Canada from Australia in the 1950s, Carla worked briefly for H.A. Simons before acquiring the post of secretary to the Australian Trade Commissioner in Vancouver.
She remained in this position for the rest of her working life. After years as a career woman, Carla retired and married her long-time friend, Ron Simpson at the Central Presbyterian Church in Vancouver.
Together they moved to White Rock and became stalwarts of the local community, particularly delighting in their involvement with the church, the gardening club, the
Semiahmoo Fish and Game Club and Ron’s Air Force Veterans’ Association, to name just a few. They shared a love of music, being frequent attendees at the opera and concerts, and enjoyed dining out at all the local restaurants.
Carla was a talented pianist and always encouraged and fostered the talents of others. Carla had a strong faith and despite health problems very rarely missed a Sunday Service at St. John’s Presbyterian Church. Her love of life was buoyant and infectious, and her bright presence will be greatly missed. She only had a small family and sadly many of those close to her have gone before her, but she has left so many memories behind.
A heartfelt thank you to the Pacific Carlton, Harmony Health, and the White Rock Hospice. Memorial donations can be made to the local food bank at
