September 20, 1929 - July 12, 2019
Celia "Tseely" Chaikin died on July 12, 2019 after a brave struggle with heart disease. Born in Germany and raised from an early age in Israel, she settled in Canada in the early 1950s and lived in Montreal, Toronto and South Surrey. Celia was the beloved wife for 62 years of the late Arnold Chaikin (1925-2015) and selfless mother to their children, Ron, Ira and Tamara. She was a generous spirit, a sensitive listener and a loyal friend, who also made fantastic cakes!
Tseely was realistic and resourceful, which helped her weather some hard times. She filtered life's events through her unusual, often infectious sense of humour. She could never recount a joke properly, but made it even funnier with her unique retelling. Tseely had abundant creativity, which led her later in life to avidly pursue painting, weaving, and sculpting. She loved colour and style, and shopping and dressing well. She inspired those around her to stand up straighter, try harder and comb their hair. The world is a little less colourful without her.
