July 1, 1928 - June 28, 2025

With deep love and gratitude, we announce the passing of Clayton Walter Mills on June 12, 2025, just weeks shy of his 97th birthday. A man of deep faith, strong principle, and great purpose, Clayton leaves behind a legacy as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, educator, and community leader.

Born in 1928, Clayton spent his life in service—most notably as a teacher and school principal whose leadership shaped generations of students and educators. In 1951, he married Noreen, his beloved partner of nearly 74 years. Together they raised four children: Blair (Carol), Clark (Debi), Lori-Jean (Alan), and Ian (Dale). Clayton took great pride in his family, which grew to include nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Abraham (John), and by Noreen, the love of his life. Clayton and Noreen also lovingly embraced Farshad and Farzaneh Karimimir and their sons as chosen family, a cherished bond that spanned decades.

A devoted Christian, Clayton served faithfully in music ministry and leadership. He found great joy in purpose—whether in the classroom, the choir loft, or during his extensive travels. He officially retired many times, but never stopped contributing, advising, or finding meaning in new roles.

Clayton had a lifelong passion for genealogy, compiling a bound history of his family dating back to the 17th century. He was also a playful grandfather, with an indefatigable appetite for card games and actual sweets, and a passionate gardener who delighted in the early blooms of British Columbia.

In classic Clayton fashion, he wrote his own obituary 21 years early—ever the planner, never one to leave things to chance.

He will be deeply missed and remembered always—with love, with laughter, and with profound gratitude.

Special thanks to Marilou A. Saflor, Marjorie Patiag, and the staff of Westminster House for their exceptional care.
