Connie Shelia Phillips West (née Whittle), 87, died peacefully on September 1, 2024, with her son, Danny, by her side after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's and Leukemia.
Born on August 8, 1937, to Alfred Whittle and Sarah (Gibson) in Drumheller, Alberta. She grew up in White Rock, BC with her sister Eileen and brother Tommy.
In 1955 she became the first Miss White Rock and spent many years thereafter volunteering and mentoring young candidates. She recalled this time of her life with great fondness.
She married Fred Phillips in 1957 and together they welcomed two children, Danny and Grant.
After losing Fred to cancer, she married Carl West, and they spent many years in Hawaii and Oregon.
Late in life, she found great companionship with her longtime friend, Rod Goodchild.
She was very close with her niece, Wendy, and they enjoyed taking many trips together.
Connie loved to sing and dance and was an avid crafter, often gifting crochet or knit blankets to those closest to her. She also deeply loved animals and was greatly comforted in her final years by the family golden retriever, Jimmy.
Connie is survived by her son Danny (Michelle), grandchildren Randi (Derek) and Ashley (Dusan), and great-grandchildren, Greya, Kingsley, and Sasha as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son Grant in 2019.
