Dan Pinckston passed away peacefully in Surrey on January 24, 2020 surrounded by family and friends.
Dad was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta one of four siblings. Growing up he spent many joyful hours at Pigeon Lake. He married Rena Linke on August 25, 1956 and was a wonderful father to two children. Dad's early working years after high school graduation was to work at the Swift meat packing plant, however after 7 years he decided to return to school obtaining his Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1966. Upon graduation he started working for the Government of Alberta in the Department of Education and retired in 1989 as Director of Personnel.
Dad was a true handyman and had an immense amount of energy to complete many projects both large and small. He was a kind and gentle soul who was loyal, sensitive, fun loving, adventuresome and generous. For many years, Dad was the most amazing care-giver to his ailing wife. He had a zest for life and involved himself in many activities such as working on cars (Austin Healeys), cooking lessons, dancing, and travelling. Dad found happiness again when he met his very dear friend, Joyce.
He is survived by his children Daniel Robert Pinckston (Beth) and Laura Jane Johnson (Don), his grandchildren Scott, Christopher, Eric, Kristy, Jamie, Mark, Katja and Matthew; his sister, Alice McLean, special friend Joyce Crawford and many extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Rena and sister, Joan James, and brother Don Pinckston.
Thank you to Morgan Place Care Home for the excellent care he received in his last years. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dan's name to either the Parkinson Society British Columbia or the MS Society of Canada.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
