In loving memory ~
Diane Claerbout passed away peacefully at Langley Lodge on July 7, 2023, at the age of 94. She was surrounded by her amazing family and the wonderful, exceptional nurses and caregivers at Langley Lodge.
Diane was born in Belgium on April 15, 1929. She survived WWII as a teenager. Diane later married Hubert Claerbout, who predeceased her in 1994. They immigrated to Canada in 1958, settling in Toronto, with their only child Caroline. They later moved to Flesherton, Ontario to start their own business - a small café and gas station, where they resided for 11 years before they moved to Vancouver in 1979.
Diane was very independent, full of humour and had a strong loving character. Growing up in hard times during the war instilled in her a need to help others. Her family was blessed to have had many wonderful times with her in West Vancouver and White Rock and at the cottage in Sudden Valley, Washington. Diane's love and care for others was welcomed in so many Care Homes, the Canadian Legion, and the Peace Arch Hospital Superfluity Shop, where she volunteered countless hours.
She'll be so very missed by her surviving family - daughter Caroline, son-in-law Robert, her four grandchildren - Marina, Derek, Brent, and Samantha and four great-grandchildren - Jude, Liam, Anna, and Emily. Also, her extended family in Canada and Belgium and the many friends she made along the way.
A private family memorial will be held to celebrate Diane's life. Memorial donations may be made to Langley Lodge.
