April 7, 1933 - May 6, 2025

Donald (Don) Ernest Davison was a genuine character, beloved for his vitality, intelligence, humour, moral compass and incisiveness. He prided himself on moderation in all things, living simply and being resourceful, always seeming to have just the right-sized screwdriver (or screw) for the job. No dime or unused zap strap was left on the ground in his vicinity; he saw value where many would not, in ways large and small. He spent many years in union leadership at CUPE Local 728 fighting for the best interests of its members, and he always held a "group first" mentality. Don was charming and personable, most recently setting himself up in the lobby of his Evergreen Baptist apartment building to greet all those who came and went. He was endlessly curious, about ideas and people, and always had time for a debate or an episode of Ideas or As It Happens on CBC.

Don was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan on April 7, 1933 and showed repeatedly the strength and resilience of a Prairie farm boy. He moved to Vancouver with his mother when he was 12 years old, graduating from Kits High in 1958. He called the west coast home for the rest of his life. Don married Dorthe (nee Jensen) in 1973 and they raised four children of whom he was very proud (and would tell anyone who would listen): Amy Peck, Anne Davison, Adam Davison and Aran Davison. A man before his time, he prioritized caring for and spending time with his children over pursuing a high powered career, not an obvious decision for someone who had the brains and brawn to do just about anything. They will be forever grateful.

Don died peacefully under the excellent care of the staff at Peace Arch Hospital on May 6, 2025, surrounded by his four children. He will be sorely missed by Amy (Garrett, Ivy and Sawyer), Anne (James and Alder), Adam (Rachel, Abigail and Addison) and Aran (Jessica), and all those who knew and loved him, but his time had come to move on from this earth. He met the end of his life as he did most things - with steadiness and grace.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Ocean Park Hall (1577 128th St, Surrey, BC) on Sunday, May 25th at 3:30 pm.
