Donald Webster Terry

Donald was born February 14th, 1938, passed away peacefully at the side of his loving wife of 66 years, Patricia Terry, on May 7th, 2023, in their South Surrey home.

Known by his family as 'Grandpa Chubbz', Don is survived by his wife, Pat, their two sons, Dave and Steve and their wives - both named Susan. In addition to his children, Don enjoyed loving relationships with each of his five grandchildren - Scott (Erin), Stephanie (Dave), Tyler, Becky, and Alyssa as well as his seven great-grandchildren - Brooke, Adam, Halle, Ben, Malia, Mackenzie, and Donny.

Born in Raymond Alberta, to Archie and Muriel Terry, Don was the second of five kids in a lively but loving family. The family had moved to Lethbridge where in high school, he met the love of his life Patricia Stouffer. From the young age of 15 forward, the couple were rarely apart. After their marriage in 1957, the young couple left Alberta and headed for Provo Utah where Don would attend Brigham Young University. With a full class load during the day, and the night shift at a local pharmacy, Don was able to earn a Bachelor of Science in 1961.

After gradation they moved to the Pacific Northwest and enjoyed life in Seattle before settling in Vancouver where they would settle to raise their family. Don worked as an underwriter for the Travellers Insurance Company prior to purchasing his own insurance agency, W.C Courtney. It wasn't long before he joined forces with Brent Atkinson (Grove Agencies) and Atkinson & Terry Insurance was established. Don Sache joined soon after and the three through hard work, dedication and sound business practices, grew a very success business. Don always saw the business as not just a way to provide for his family but also for those who worked along side him. Don was a very kind and supportive business leader. Those who worked with him felt valued and supported, this may be why so many employees stayed with the company for their entire careers.

Don and Pat have two sons David and Stephen, both sons live near their parents and the family is very close. Family was very important to Don and he had a close relationship with both sons, their spouses, his 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He enjoyed finding just the right nickname for each of them and enjoyed a fun loving individual relationship with each of them.

Don was a man of great faith, he served his fellow man through faithful church service as a member of the Church of Jesus of Latter Day Saints. He served in many leadership roles including Bishop, High Councillor, and as an ordinance worker in the Vancouver Temple. He served his community in other ways including sitting on the board of directors of the Surrey Memorial Hospital.

Don was a friend to all. His happy demeanor and generous spirit endeared him to his family and friends. He rarely asked for much and was always willing to help someone in need. He enjoyed the simple things in life such as watching or attending a Canucks game. He loved caring for his rose bushes, he took great pride in his lawn and yard. His favorite place on earth was looking out at Lake Samish from his favourite chair. Above all, there was nothing he enjoyed more than being with his family. As he neared the end of his life, he visited with each of his children, grand-children, and great grandchildren. Each expressed their love for him and he for them. Then quietly, on a bright Sunday morning in his beloved sunroom beside his wife of 66 years, and his two sons Don peacefully slipped away. He will be missed.

Services will held June 2 11:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 15450 20th Ave Surrey BC.
