Mum was a great woman, so positive and thankful throughout her life.
Always well dressed, a true lady. She loved her family dearly as they loved her. After 95 years of living an active and interesting life she died of natural causes in Duncan B.C. at the home of her daughter Pamela Jeklin, surrounded by family and of course the pets.
Mum was born in Yorkshire England. In 1940 during the Second World War she was evacuated by ship to South Africa, as were many children whose parents feared for their lives t home. Mum was 15 years old at the time and didn't return to England until 1945. She had joined the Women's Royal Naval Service (WRNS) in Africa and on returning to England continued in service. Mum met dad at a WRNS dance, as he was in the Navy. So began the creation of a family of 4 children (John, Christopher, Elizabeth and Pamela) 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Dad, Thomas Myring, died suddenly, in January 2009 while on a world cruises. Mum showed great strength in dealing with her loss. She returned the following year to solo world cruising, with Crystal Cruises for several years after.
During this time mum kept her family home, which continued to be the gathering place, for heart warming family events, that always strengthened the family bonds. In 2015 mum loved to the Pacific Carlton seniors home and adapted quickly to the quiet life.Mum moved to the island to live with, her daughter, Pam and husband Eric shortly after the Covid 19 outbreak. Both Pam and Eric made this selflesscommitment to look after her and our family is indebted to them. Thanks so much.
Mum was a dog lover starting from early childhood and always had one at home. In the latter month of her life she struck a friendship with a cat who, initially, would bite her, eat her food but they bonded and in the end her touch was appreciated and the connection was important for mum.
Mum will be missed by all and never forgotten.
There will be no formal service.
The family will arrange a private celebration of life in the future. In
lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation to the B.C.SPCA or simply give your dog or cat a treat and tell them it's from Doreen.
