McCONNELL, Doris (nee Fregin)


Born September 7, 1922, passed away peacefully at her home at the White Rock Seniors Village on Thursday, November 17, 2016; She was 94 years old. She is survived by her two sons; Jim, who lives with his wife Maureen, in Oliver BC; and Don, who lives in Surrey. Her husband of 67 years, Ted, passed away in April 2015. She is also survived by her grandson Travis, his wife Christian, and her 2 great grandchildren Lily & Parker, all living in Toronto. Predeceased by her elder sister Eileen, her two surviving sisters are Lillian Saar and Bea Schieman, both of Ottawa, as well as 5 nieces & nephews and their families, living in Ontario and BC.


Doris was born in Ottawa and worked for senior government officials in WWII. She also worked for a Lutheran organization in Chicago for 2 years. In 1948 she married Edward (Ted) McConnell in Calgary. After they moved to Blairmore AB, where he was a mining engineer, Ted re-joined the RCAF. for the next 20 years she lived an Air Force life in Claresholm AB, Ottawa, Montreal, Clinton ON and Cold Lake AB. They retired first to Edmonton, then to Calgary, and had lived in White Rock for the past 15 years.


Doris will be missed by family and friends. A Memorial service will be held at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 2350 148th St., Surrey BC on Monday, January 9th, at 10:30 am. Please, no flowers.
