July 9, 1925 - February 11, 2021
Dr. Manuel Orizaga passed away on February 11th, 2021 in his 96th year. He had a deep love for his family, in particular both of his daughters Patricia (Dion) and Sharon (Steve) along with his four grandchildren Natasha, Corbin, Tim and Robert. He also was very close to his brother Dr. Jorge Orizaga who sadly passed away less than a year ago.
Dr. Orizaga was born in Mexico in 1925. He studied medicine at the University of Mexico. Manuel met the love of his life, Maria in Montreal. They were married in 1960 in Kansas City, MO. He taught for many years at the University of Ottawa and was a general pathologist at both of the major teaching hospitals in Ottawa (Civic and General).
The "Dr. M. Orizaga Award for Excellence in Resident Teaching in Pathology" has been conferred annually at the University of Ottawa since his retirement.
They then moved to St. Catharine's where he continued to work part time until the age of 71. At that point they enjoyed a full retirement in beautiful White Rock, BC. There they made many new friends. Manuel was loved and respected by all who had the privilege of knowing him. During their retirement they traveled the world extensively.
In 2006, they moved to Dundas, Ontario to live near their daughter Sharon. Manuel was a devoted and loving husband to Maria until her passing in 2011. He will finally be joining his beloved wife. The last 10 years were made easier with all the wonderful friendships Manuel made especially in the Dundas and Ancaster bridge clubs.
A private family service will be held due to Covid-19 restrictions. If desired, donations in memory of Manuel can be made to the Cancer Society, Scleroderma Association and Hamilton Burlington SPCA in lieu of flowers.
