May 9, 1931 - November 5, 2019
Our mother, Eleanor Mary (Peters) Janzen, passed away peacefully at Westminster House (White Rock, B.C.) in the early evening hours of Nov. 5, 2019 following a brief illness.
She was born on May 9, 1931 in Abbotsford, B.C. to David and Mary (Baerg) Peters. Her mother passed away suddenly when she was 5 years old. Three years later, her dad married Elizabeth Hamm, and the family moved to a five-acre farm in Surrey B.C. It was there that she would graduate from Queen Elizabeth High School in 1949. After serving as a translator for the British embassy in Germany she returned to BC and began her 30 year career in Education. She brought much energy to her chosen career and knew that teaching involved not only the transfer of knowledge but also the giving of love.
Mom had an endless love for her family, who were the pride and joy of her life.
She is survived by her son Gordon (wife Debra and children Matt and Mika); son David (wife Shannon and children Ellen and Madison); sister Evelyn (Peters) Klassen and her husband Abe Klassen; and brother-in-law Arthur Block. She is welcomed to heaven by her dad, mother, stepmother, and sister Rita (Peters) Block.
Special thanks go to the staff at Westminster House, who loved and cared for mom the past eight years.
A celebration of mom's life will be held at 3 pm, Dec. 8, at Peace Arch Alliance Church in White Rock. In lieu of flowers, online donations may be made to the Vancouver School Board (www.vsb.bc.ca/District/Contacts/Donations/ ). Please select the Fund Destination as "AN-McBride Annex" and the gift in memory of Eleanor Janzen.
