Evelyn May Richards (nee Grant)

February 25, 1921 – May 27, 2021
Evelyn, born in Maple Ridge, QC. grew up in Miami, MB. As the eldest of seven, sister helped raise most of her siblings.
She worked as Chief Telephone Operator for Manitoba Tel. in Miami. There she met and married Jarmy (1948), who with his CIBC career moved to many small towns in SK and MB, finally settling in Winnipeg until retirement in 1978.
They moved west to be closer to the kids in Vancouver and Calgary; spending 19 happy years in Hope, BC living out near Kawkawa Lake; enjoying the mountains, the outdoors and gardening. Mom was a churchgoer and loved singing in the choir. She was also an avid curler, bowler and, in her youth loved to ski.
In 1998, they moved to White Rock, BC. where Mom made new friends, joined committees, enjoyed regular walks on the beachfront promenade with her kindred spirit, Alberta Kerr.
In 2014, she moved to Concord Retirement Residence by the Sea. It was another family to her; with the kindest, most caring staff and residents, where she enjoyed a 100th birthday celebration. We cannot thank Holly and her staff at Concord enough for a most wonderful 7 years, enjoying beautiful gardens, special celebration parties, great food and loving care.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, Jarmy (1998) and eldest son, Grant (2000), as well as brothers Lawrence (Doreen, deceased), James (Grace) and Ted (Lorna) Grant; sister, Eileen (Gilbert, deceased) Maguire, brother-in-law Paton (Shirley) Wilson, niece, Barb (Phil) Gullett and nephew Grant (Doris) Maguire.
She will be missed by brother Marvyn (Bev) Grant, sister Shirley Wilson, many loving nieces and nephews; grandson, Geoff (mom, Bev), son Warren, grandsons, Scott and Tim and daughter, Diane.
Many thanks to the wonderful, caring team at Melville Hospice House. A small private service will be held and her ashes scattered with Dad’s.
