September 26, 1926 - October 12, 2018
Morton, Flora Isabella (nee Lindsay), born September 26, 1926 in Vancouver, passed away peacefully in Delta October 12, 2018, two weeks after her 92nd birthday. She leaves to mourn, her children Jamie (Kerry) and Jan (Mark), four grandchildren, and two nephews. Predeceased by her sister, Louise.

Flora grew up in South Vancouver, attending Tecumseh Elementary School and John Oliver High School, followed by the Provincial Normal School and UBC, where she trained as a teacher. Teaching was her first career, sometimes taking her to remote wilderness locations and one room school houses, but she most enjoyed her time teaching Kindergarten at Crescent United Church. Her love of books led her to a second career in libraries, beginning at Ocean Park and culminating as the Community Librarian at the White Rock Library. She truly enjoyed this position, working with books, colleagues, and making a real contribution to the community. After retiring she volunteered in the Archives at the White Rock Museum for a number of years. Granny particularly enjoyed the gardens she cultivated at her home of nearly 60 years; in her own words she "spent many happy, peaceful hours in my backyard garden with the birds and visiting cats." As a neighbourhood fixture in Crescent Heights, she developed close ties with her neighbours, who were always there when she needed them. She was proud of her four grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow up to become adults.

Flora recently wrote, "My journey has ended, and I wish to say goodbye to all my relatives, friends, neighbours and others who have known me over the past 92 years. I have been blessed with 2 exceptional children, Jamie and Jan and their spouses, Kerry and Mark. I am especially proud of my 4 grandchildren James, Charlotte, Hunter and Connor." Always proud of her Scottish heritage, Flora included the last lines of Robert Burns' song "Nithsdale's Welcome Hame" in her reflections on her passing:

"The weary night o' care and grief

May hae a joyfu' morrow;

So dawning day has brought relief,

Fareweel our night o' sorrow"

By Flora's request there will be no service, and this will be honoured by her family.

Thanks, are extended to the care staff at Kin Village, Delta.
