PENTY, FLORENCE

March 23 1908 - September 24 2008

Flo (nee Bell) passed away peacefully at Westminster House, Surrey BC on Wednesday September 24th

She is loved and missed by her daughter, Carol and son-in-law Murray McLaughlin, grandchildren, Greg (Janice) McLaughlin, Shari (William) West and great grandchildren Jordan and Mason West. She also leaves her brother, Willis Bell of Lethbridge Alberta and six nieces. She was predeceased by Eric, her husband of 67 years in January 2000, and by her three sisters.

Flo was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and spent her early years on the family farm at Donovan Sask. When she was nine the family lived briefly in Victoria BC and she determined at that time that was where she wished to live her life. She returned to Victoria where she completed high school and entered the Royal Jubilee School of Nursing. She was a graduate of the class of 1929. She and Eric were married in January of 1933 and they made their home in Oak Bay where, except for three years in the late thirties, they lived until 1999. In May of that year they moved to Westminster House to be nearer to family.

Flo was passionate about caring for people, nursing, gardening and she loved to take long walks, preferably to the beach. She continued to enjoy her walks after moving to Surrey and even in her mid nineties often made the long trek on her own to White Rock Beach. She has always been known for her sunny smile and gentle disposition and will leave a void in the lives of many.

The family wishes to thank Dr Benitez and all the loving staff at Westminster House who have cared for her, so well, these past nine years and particularly these past few weeks.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, October 6th at Westminster house. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice.
