VOIGHT, Fredrick Paul

Fred was born July 27, 1924 in Mellowdale, Alberta to Christian and Emma Voight. When not working on the family homestead he worked in the mills in the Mellowdale area. He married Violet Granfield (Morin) who had two children Bonnie and Allan. Fred and Violet had two more children, Dianne and Chris. Fred and Vi later separated and were divorced in 1962. They had moved into Edmonton and for a while he worked for the city of Edmonton and later started his own construction company, Voight Holdings Ltd. He also kept busy with a homestead north of Edmonton and bringing up Dianne and Chris as a single father - he was great! He was very active in St. Peter's Lutheran Church where Dianne and Chris were confirmed, and also where he met the love of his life, Marvelyn Schwermann. They were married there July 20, 1974 with her father, Pastor Albert Schwermann, officiating. In 1979 they sold the construction company and moved to Westbank, BC due to Marv's health. They had a home built on Glenrosa Road with views from Westbank to Kelowna. They were very active in initiating the Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Camp in Westbank. They welcomed many new people to the area and to their church along with contributing greatly to many church and community volunteer activities. Together, they travelled extensively.

Fred and Marv moved into a condo in downtown Westbank in 1990 as Marv's health continued to deteriorate and on March 26, 2006 she passed away. Fred stayed in Westbank till 2011, then he moved to White Rock, BC to be closer to Dianne, Grant and their family. He kept busy in White Rock by attending Zion Lutheran Church and later White Rock Lutheran and helping out at the food bank, carpet bowling, gardening at the church and the House of Hope. He made many wonderful friends through his volunteering and extensive travels.

The Lord called Fred home on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 92 years of age, after having an extremely healthy life until the last few years. He was in Peace Arch Hospital for almost six weeks and very well taken care of at the Irene Thomas Hospice in Delta for six days, our sincere thanks to all the wonderful staff.
