JACOB, George. It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of George Jacob, at Peace Arch Hospital, Hospice Unit, in White Rock, BC, on February 27, 2014, at the age of 82. Loving husband to Rose Jacob (nee Aleksic) for almost 60 years. Proud father of Irene (Mike Mannella) and John (Audrey). Devoted grandfather to Adam, Emily, Rachel, and Kate. Much loved brother-in-law of Stephanie and Frank Frost of Surrey, BC, and uncle to Richard and Wendy Frost. Survived by 1 sister and 2 brothers in Romania.

Born in Turnu Severin, Romania, he made his way to Italy in 1949 and then to Canada in 1951 to start a new life. After working in Quebec, and the mine in Sudbury, he was married and started a family in Beardmore, ON, while working in the Leitch Gold Mine. Moving to Fort William, ON in 1956, he became a welder and pipefitter and later a foreman working on the construction of many paper mills across Northwestern Ontario. In 1973, he and his wife purchased their own motel business in Thunder Bay, ON which they ran successfully for 14 years, later retiring to White Rock, BC in 1999. He was a Mason and volunteered over the years in assisting new immigrants. He was a private and philosophical man, who studied science, appreciated art, and enjoyed soccer, chess and wine. He enjoyed helping friends and strangers alike and could repair anything from engines to electronics. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him and those whose lives he touched along the way. Remembrances would be gratefully received at either the "Peach Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation Hospice Fund", in White Rock, BC, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
