George William Hale

September 27, 2006

It is with great sadness that the family of George Hale announce his passing.

He was taken from us on September 27, 2006, while in Peace Arch Hospital, White Rock, B.C., as a result of a stroke.

George was born to George and Catherine Hale on March 3, 1912, in Cobham, Surrey, England, and emigrated to Vancouver with his family at a very early age.

He grew up and attended school in Vancouver.

George excelled in sports and was well known in soccer and baseball circles. He met the love of his life Margaret (Marnie) Dobson and on June 19, 1940, they were married.

George served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII and on his return worked for the B.C. Electric Company until the early fifties when he moved his family to California for three years.

On their return to Vancouver, George worked for Canada Post until retirement in 1977.

He was very active until his passing. George was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing pool.

He was a life member of the White Rock Seniors Center where he could still win a game or two of snooker.

George and Marnie loved to travel and particularly enjoyed their trips to Hawaii and Reno.

One of George's greatest assets was his love and devotion to his wife of 66 years, Marnie, and his family.

Ever a gentleman, he could always be counted on to give his friends a helping hand.

George will be sadly missed by his wife Marnie, son Bob Hale (Joan) of White Rock, daughter Sharon Fitger (Emil Hansen) of Kamloops, sister

Mabel Stiglich, three grandchildren Brent Hale, Pamela Fitger and Deanne Fitger, two great grand children

Christian and Brianna, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to the doctors and nurses of Peace Arch Hospital for their wonderful care and support.

A Celebration of Life will be held.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
