Grace Mitchell

Grace Alice Emma (Elliott) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 10, 2003 in White Rock, B.C. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert McDonald Mitchell (retired from the Royal Bank of Canada) and her children Karen (Math teacher in Rye, N.Y.), Brenda (Singing teacher in Berlin, Germany), and Glenn (Guitar teacher in Nelson, B.C.), her grandchildren Serena and Justin (students in New York State), and her brothers Walter (Lorane) Elliott in Langley, B.C. and Rev. Clifford A.S. (Mary) Elliott in Toronto. She is predeceased by her brother Lloyd Elliott of Montreal and her sister Doris in Swift Current.

Born in Melita, Manitoba, Grace grew up in Langham, Saskatchewan. She obtained an Associate Diploma in Piano from the Toronto Conservatory of Music and a Licentiate Diploma from the University of Saskatchewan. She taught piano and was church organist and choir director first in North Battleford, Saskatchewan (where her Junior Choir won the Provincial Festival) and then in Dorval, Quebec (Strathmore United Church).

Grace and Bob spent 25 retirement winters in Sarasota, Florida. Grace was an avid golfer and was a member of Beaconsfield Golf Club near Montreal, Gulf Gate Golf Club in Sarasota, Florida and Hazelmere Golf Club in Surrey, B.C. She had a hole-in-one and won numerous prizes. She enjoyed travelling and made many extensive international trips including one around the world.

There will be a Memorial Service at the First United Church in White Rock, B.C. on February 29, 2004.

The family wish to thank the staff of Crescent Gardens Retirement Home for their understanding and compassionate care.
