Harold BARRIE

October 9, 2012

BARRIE, Harold Cameron 1911 - 2012. It is with great sadness that Diane and Caroline announce the death of their father, Harold or Hal, of White Rock, BC, who passed away peacefully in his sleep in his 102nd year on October 9, 2012. Born in Moose Jaw, Sask. and raised in Regina, Hal was the only child of Tom and Jennie Barrie. After High School, Hal attended UBC and the University of Toronto and obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering. His first job was with CIL in Brownsburg, Que. where he met and married Lilian White. Hal's career took him to DuPont of Canada and then on to Texas, Brockville, Ont. and finally to Montreal. Hal and Lilian retired to Mallorytown, Ont. and then to Cornwall, Ont. When Lilian passed away in 2004, Hal moved to White Rock, BC and lived at Sunnyside Manor for more than seven years. He is survived by his daughter Diane Bower (Donald), four grandchildren, Cari Schmidt, (Kevin), Deena O'Brien, (Daniel), John Bower (Carolee) and Mary Katherine Bower and daughter Caroline Cavers (Kenneth) and two grandchildren Scott Cavers and Mark Cavers. He is also survived by his seven great grandchildren, Finnley, Jack, Ella, Veronica, Mason, Colton and Poppy. Harold enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved his family, people, learning, travel and had a life-long passion for music which he shared with everyone whenever there was a piano nearby. Famous for his repertoire of classic songs he entertained his peers throughout his long and generous life. On his 100th Birthday his family hosted a wonderful celebration to formally "thank him for his music". He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and never forgotten. So if you hear music from above it is probably because Hal has found a piano in heaven. At Hal's request there will be no funeral service. Thoughts and condolences are welcome. dbower1@shaw.ca or
