STEENGE, Hendrikus. Hendrikus (Henk) Steenge died at home on August 25th after a short illness. He was surrounded by his family for the entire time. He will be so very greatly missed by his wife of 49 years, Ann-Marie, and sons Evert, Mark (and wife Karin), Dirk; and daughter Heather (and husband Vince).Grandchildren Cole, Luke, Jordan, Renee, Mackenzi, Reece and Chase will have fond memories of many times with Grandpa but especially of camping and crabbing trips.

Henk's nephews Evert and Evert Jan and their families in the Netherlands also mourn his passing. Henk was born and raised in Annerveenschekanaal, The Netherlands. He graduated in Agriculture after which he spent some time in an exchange program on a farm in the United States. After returning home he immigrated to Manitoba. After a few jobs on a farm, as a taxi driver, in a mining community in the North, and as a supplier of dairy products to stores - all in an effort to upgrade his English - he became an employee of the Animal Feed Department of Canada Packers. He travelled to farms in the area, and later supervised the production of feed in the plant in St. Boniface until early retirement. He then volunteered with CESO and travelled as a consultant to Kenya, China, Bolivia, Russia, and Honduras. Henk and Ann-Marie moved to White Rock 15 years ago and have since enjoyed the company of many special friends in the wonderful outdoors while hiking, sailing and camping. A monthly pot luck group with special friends was always a highlight for Henk.

He volunteered with Meals on Wheels and R.E.S.C.U.E. The family has been overwhelmed by the support of those in the Health Care System - their family doctor, Dr. Daniel; Dr. Lail, hospitalist at Surrey Memorial; and the Palliative Care team (especially Ann and attendants Kevin and Joe).

If desired, donations in Henk's memory may be made to The Peace Arch Hospital Foundation Palliative Education Fund,
