CORMODE, Henry Daniel Alexander

April 15, 1940 - Feb 10, 2010

Alex was a gentle man who died as he lived, quietly after many recent health challenges. He was born and raised on a farm near Acme AB where his parents (Jaqueline and Art Cormode, now deceased) grew grain and raised cattle. After attending small schools, he graduated from Acme High School and attended the U of A studying Engineering, graduating with his masters in 1964. He was always at heart an Albertan. He made his living as a Chemical Engineer, PEng, working for Cominco in Trail, Kimberly, Fort St. James, Pine Point and with Agrium in Saskatoon for 26 years. He retired in 2005 and moved to White Rock where he happily lived. Alex loved listening to people and was always learning about history, genealogy and rocks, anything and everything. He loved travelling, golfing, curling and lawn bowling. (This came to him late in life, but said it was the game for him - people and cost wise.) He loved playing duplicate bridge and belonged to the Saskatoon gourmet bridge club, but the love of his life was his family. He is survived by his wife Janet and daughter Liisa, sons Art and Tom (Renee) and his beloved grandchildren - Teaghan and Georgia. His cousins Dick Groundwater (Susan) and daughter Sarah, Lee Hogan (Mike) and Judy Carvell (Gerry) and sons Tyson (Erin) and Bryce (Bobby). He had many a delightful time with his two brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, John & June Tynan and Peter (deceased) and Joan Tynan. A celebration of Alex's life will be on Saturday, Feb. 20th, 2010, at 1:30pm at St. Mark's Anglican Church, 12953 20th Ave, Surrey. In the summer time there will be a memorial service and burial of his ashes in Acme, AB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 26331 Stn Brm B, Toronto, ON, M7Y 4R1 or the Roulston Museum, Box 1067 Carstairs, AB, T0M 0N0
