Ina Glenday

September 26, 2003

Ina (nee Olson) passed away on September 26, 2003 in White Rock, B.C. Born in Stenungsund, Sweden in 1905, Ina travelled with her mother and brother to New Westminster in 1912 to join with her father who had preceded them. The family then moved to a log cabin on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, near Barclay Sound. Ina lived primarily in the Lower Mainland until her move to South Surrey in 1949 where she remained until her entry to Peace Arch Hospital following her stroke in 1998.

Predeceased by: most recently her sister Gerd Alderson (Aug., 2002) and earlier by her husband, Jim Glenday (March, 1983). Survived by: her daughter and her husband, Gail (John Gerwing) of Vancouver; by her son and his wife, Brian Hamilton (Maria Undurraga) of South Surrey; granddaughter Cynthia and her husband (Rick Waiz) of South Surrey; granddaughter Colleen Doherty of Surrey; grand-niece Judy (Bill Gerwing) of North Vancouver, grand-nephew Doug Alderson (Sharon) of North Vancouver; by her good friend, Karin Erickson of Surrey.

Ina became well known in the area after she opened The Little Folks Shop in Hilltop where she sold her smocked dresses, previously established from her Varsity Babywear in Vancouver and from the New Westminster City Market. She ran the Little Folks Shop for over 20 years until, at age 83, she thought she had better retire!

Ina was very appreciative of the Weatherby III staff, especially her head nurse, Chris Koverchuk, and care workers too numerous to name. She treasured the frequent visits with Brian and Marisol and the very caring Cynthia and her girls, the weekly visits with Gail and Liza, as well as those who could set their time aside or would drive some distance to visit when possible - Colleen and children; Judy (Bill); Doug (Cookie); and Jana (Michael). She enjoyed the caring attention by her friend Karin and the often-visiting Margaret.

Ina's greatest pleasure was in giving to others. Her bi-weekly dinners "at the farm" were only one way she expressed her love. Thus a family and friends dinner to review and honour Ina's life will be held at 5:30 p.m. on October 19, 2003. Please phone 604-536-9681 to obtain details.

Ina requested that here be no service and no flowers sent, but those who wish to honour her memory can make a contribution in her name to the Peace Arch Hospital Auxilliary.
