Statham-Ames, Irene Marie. Dec. 23, 1915 - June 18, 2013. We are sad to announce the passing of Irene Marie Statham-Ames (nee Tobin) at 97. Irene passed away at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock on June 18, 2013. Born December 23, 1915 in Prestwich, Manchester, England, Irene was one of four sisters, only two, (Irene and Kathleen) of which survived to adulthood. Before and during World War II Irene found work with the British Civil Service. She married Tom Statham-Ames in 1946 and following the birth of a son (Peter) in 1947 emigrated to Canada in 1957 to live in Vancouver, BC. Irene worked until retirement in 1981 at Vancouver International Airport where she occupied a position in the "Met" office. Since retirement she was active in the church Star of the Sea and Good Shepherd up until she surrendered her drivers license in 2007 at the age of 92! Predeceased by her beloved husband Tom in 1980 and her sister Kathleen in 1988. She is survived by son Peter, grandsons Jeff and Peter Jr., granddaughter Teresa. We would like to thank Darlene Wolf her neighbour who for 13 years treated Irene virtually like she would have her own mother and good friend Joan Hickey who provided companionship and wheels when Irene needed transportation in her last few years.
