Isaak (known as Ike) Unger, age 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at his home in Langley, B.C.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Moya.
Ike was born July 17,1931 on the family farm near McMahon, SK to Herman & Maria Unger. The ninth youngest of 12 children. In 1948 Ike moved to BC with sister Mary & Brother-in-law Jake Giesbrecht. Where he met the love of his life & future bride Moya (Mo) Maguire in Terrace, BC. Isaak married Moya on August 13, 1955. They traveled throughout BC working construction. Settling in Surrey, BC in 1967, Ike started his own business as a highway and railway general contractor. He worked hard and always by the pencil, using his long math skills estimating small & large projects. Unger Construction was a reasonably successful business.
Ike & Mo began their family in 1956 with sons Bradley, Randell in 1957, Darrell in 1960 and daughter Tammy 1962.
Dad moved the family into our newly built South Surrey home in 1972 where we grew and prospered.
Mo loved her vegetable garden and was especially proud of her Rose garden surrounding the backyard pool where they often gathered with friends and family.
Ike was a top shelf fast ball pitcher, a successful baseball coach, a character full of life, enjoyed socializing, especially over a game of dice on lawn at their 2nd home at Surfside in Maui.
Ike is lovingly remembered by his children and their families. Brad, Renee & children Jamie (Chelsea), Brita Unger, Randy, Marcie & children Sarah, Naomi, Spencer Unger, Darrell, Jody & children Jesse, Niko, Stevie, Tammy Unger (ex Kevin) & children Danielle, Jaxon MacMillan.
