1925-2020 ~ Ivy was known for her infectious smile and her adventurous outlook on life. Born on the family farm near Glaslyn, SK in 1925, she was the youngest of seven siblings.
She graduated from Holy Family Hospital School of Nursing, Prince Albert in 1947. It remained one of the cornerstones of her life. Ivy was very proud of her 70-year nursing career and passed that passion for medicine along to several of her grandchildren.
In 1948 Ivy and Vince were married. They started a family, and after 5 daughters they decided that was enough! Their family was perfect! Ivy, along with Vince, enriched the community of PA by volunteering and supporting many organizations, for instance, Ivy was part of the first 'Status of Women' committee in Prince Albert.
In 1974 Ivy, Vince, Amy and Ivy D started a new chapter and moved to Burnaby B.C. where Ivy took a staff nursing position at Sears. Ivy embarked on many adventures; from buying a cabin at Mt. Baker all on her own one weekend, to being part of the Lady Vancouver Club.
She volunteered at Expo '86 and started a weekly supper club and a BC Discovery group. Ivy and Vince later moved to White Rock in 2001 where they embraced the local community, established great friendships and enjoyed walking along the beach and pier.
She treasured the friendships she made throughout her life. She was the glue that kept her large extended family and many dear friends connected and together through countless enjoyable dinners and get togethers!
Always curious, Ivy traveled the world and was fortunate enough to see six continents. She also loved following her family in her atlas on their adventures around the globe.
She encouraged each of her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren to do their best, to work hard, to stay active, to look out for each other and to follow their dreams. In short, she always inspired her family and friends to live life to its fullest and that is exactly what she did.
Ivy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on November 22nd and passed away December 11th, peacefully, at home in White Rock surrounded by the love of her family. She was a very patient to the end, teaching us all to be better caregivers.
Ivy will be lovingly remembered by her five daughters Lina (Brian), Patricia (George), Connie (Alan), Amy (Jamie) and Ivy (Edwin); eleven grandchildren Josh, Jana, Siobhan, Nicolette, Alana (Duncan), Jessica, Alan Vincent, Chrissy (Curtis), Ian, Johnathan and Mariah; 2 great grandchildren Remi and Emilie as well as many nieces and nephews, relatives and good friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Vince, and her grandson Alan Vincent.
When Covid concerns abate, we plan to hold a celebration of Ivy's life at Waskesiu, PANP (summer of 2021) where she spent many summers.
