JACK COWIE GEDDES 1913 -2007


Passed away peacefully at White Rock Peace Arch Hospital on Feb 3. Survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Julie, his daughters Alma Roussinos ,Tina Podwinski, son Al (Helen) and grandchildren Athena (Victor), Tirra, Star (Dean), Kris (Amanda), Sasha, and Aja. Predeceased by his grandson Alex. Jacks great, grandchildren, Vienna, Kai, and Geneva will honour the memory of his legacy. Born in Huntley, Scotland, Jack served in the Merchant Marines during WW II before beginning a 32 year bricklaying career in Canada. A proud member of the Bricklayers Union since 1948, Jack acted as business agent from 1966 to 1980. A man of strong convictions, Jack participated in the On to Ottawa Trek in 1935 and spoke often with authority and insight of this era in presentations to school groups in his later years. Jack was a cub leader at St. Margaret’s Church for 20 years and continued his lifelong commitment to service by running the dances at the Kent St. Seniors Centre entertaining all with his zest for life. The positive impact of his sunny disposition characterized his recent time at Come Share. Jack’s family extends sincere thanks to all staff and friends found there who treasure with us, the memory of his sense of humour, vivid gift for storytelling and sharp wit. All are invited for a celebration of Jack’s life which will be held at the Victory Gardens 14831 28th Ave. Surrey on March 3rd at 2 pm.
