Jacqueline Carol Woodward (nee Smith)

December 11, 1929 - January 11, 2022
It is with a profound sense of loss we announce the passing of our beautiful, loving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Jacquie was predeceased by her husband Ray Woodward in 2016, her sister Bonnie Melko (nee Smith) 2016, daughters in law Peggy Woodward (nee Weston) 2015 and Wendy Woodward (nee Aqua) 2021.
She is survived by her four children, Tom (Kyoko), Steve, Cindy (Grant) and Jim. She was loved and cherished beyond words by her grandchildren Jimmy (Sareth), Teresa (Chris). Krystal (Derek), Sean (Crista), Nick (Alita), Richelle (Matt), Trevor, Matt (Brooke), Hanako (Beom), and Momoko.
Great grandchildren Lauren, Mary, Kylie, Harry, Miles, Beckham, step grandchildren Greg (Jasmine), Sam (Sarah), step great grandchildren Joshua, Jordan and Brody.
Jacquie was born in Red Deer Alberta but spent a lot of her early childhood in the Lillooet area from 1932-1936 with her mom and dad and sister Bonnie who was born in Lytton on Oct.12, 1934.
They moved down to North Vancouver in 1936 where Jacquie attended school for quite a few years until moving back to Edmonton Alberta in 1945 where mom attended Victoria High School. Some of her interests included the love of riding horses, dancing and swimming.
Jacquie moved back to B.C in 1948 and settled in White Rock and worked full time at Amos Dry Goods operated by Cy and Lorraine Amos on Marine Drive. She worked full time from 1951-1954 and then very part time after that until 1966 when Cy Amos retired.
Jacquie was a very talented young seamstress / tailor. She could sew anything including wedding dresses and fully lined men's suits.
While living in White Rock she met our dad William Raymond Woodward who at the time was working at Coast Motors on Marine Drive and Oxford Steet. They had a short courtship and were married within the year on June 30, 1952 at 7:30 in the White Rock Baptist Church by Rev. Peter Connal officiating.
There was a background of potted ferns and baskets of roses at the head of the aisle which she personally decorated adding miniature orchids. Two hundred guests attended the reception in the Silver Moon Ball Room. The couple honeymooned at Bridle Falls and into the Interior.
They started their family of 4 children with the eldest William Thomas born on May 21, 1954, followed by Robert Steven Nov. 8, 1955, their daughter Cynthia Louise Nov.19, 1956 and Kenneth James Feb.3,1960.
Mom was always such a busy person tending to her huge vegetable garden and fruit trees. She was constantly canning and sewing. Her friends would always comment that her car was always full of her own kids as well as some of the neighbourhood kids driving to Kindergarten, Elementary school and sporting events.
There may have been an animal or two in the car as well! She always helped out at the school with hotdog day, sports day or where ever she was needed.
Later when we were in our teen aged years, she was always helping dad who was very active in the Lions Club with fundraising and decorations for their dances. She also painted the windows at the gas station for Christmas and different seasons. All the while keeping up with sewing grad dresses and up to date clothes.
She loved to take different courses some on fashion and decorating, while hobbies of tole painting and ceramics in which she always exceeded everyone's expectations.
Mom continued her hard work with helping with the new business "The Sur-Clean Carwash" opening in 1970 pumping gas, detailing cars to bookwork while still maintaining the family household.
Mom decided to open her own Health Food Store as she had a fascination for alternative medicine which she also took courses and furthered her education and was well read in that field. The "Sunrise Nature Plus" store was opened in 1982 and flourished until she decided to retire in around 1987.
Although mom and dad liked to travel in their younger years to different parts of North America especially to Hawaii and some parts of Europe, they really started to step it up after they retired. They went on quite a few cruises, one with Red Robinson in 1989 on the Sky Princess through the Panama Canal another year with Bill Good to Europe. Then with Rafe Mair also from CKNW to New Zealand in 2003.
They did the Maiden Voyage on the Queen Mary II on Jan 31, 2004 which they found very interesting. Crossing the International Date Line on the Sea Princess Oct 7, 2012, which was while on their last cruise to Hawaii, Fiji, Tahiti, etc. ending up in New Zealand and Australia.
Over the years our mom knit her grandchildren outfits and as teenagers she knit every single one of them an Afghan blanket to go with their bedroom colours and with all that she included one for all of her relatives and friends.
The one common thing that everyone young and old seems to say about mom is that her smile lit up a room when she entered it and her laugh was so distinct and infectious when you heard it you knew she was in the building and it warmed their hearts.
Mom was also recognized as a very kind person and that she made everyone feel important to her as we knew everyone was. She worried about everyone and took so much comfort in knowing when they were happy, there's no wonder why animals gravitated towards her as they also took comfort in her gentle and loving soul.
We will always feel blessed with the memories of her character and uniqueness within our hearts forever.
