September 19, 2019
Our family is deeply saddened by the passing of Jakob Strecker at Peace Arch Hospital on September 19, 2019 shortly after celebrating his 89th birthday. He is survived by his wife Irmtraud, his five children, nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Born in Yugoslavia in 1930, he immigrated from Germany in 1951 with his family and spent the next 45 years in southern Alberta, primarily in Calgary working as a skilled welder.
He was very dedicated to his church, spending countless hours of his free time in both "hands on" and leadership roles. He enjoyed camping and playing volleyball, activities that he performed with great enthusiasm.
Shortly after retirement he moved to White Rock in 1995 and enjoyed the surroundings of the West Coast including the temperate climate and the ocean.
He always had the best interests of his family in mind and was willing to help out at any time. He was always looking for ways to help those in need.
He will be remembered for his sense of humour, punctuality, cynicism, humility, enthusiasm, and love of good food.
He will be remembered and greatly missed by family and friends.
A memorial service was held in Calgary on October 5.
