James Allan Sherman, age 61, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2020 in Merritt, BC.
Jim grew up as a free spirited boy with a passion for fishing, hiking the woods of Pender Island, and swimming in Magic Lake.
In his teens he enjoyed skiing, flirting with the girls, and driving with friends around White Rock, Ocean Park and Crescent Beach. He felt a strong love and loyalty for his family and friends, had a wonderful sense of humour, and exhibited enduring courage as he struggled with paraplegia.
Jim was a true hero to everyone, and his dear friends Kim Knowles, Larry Johnston, Keith Johnson and Larry Joy visited Jim in Merritt many times over the years, working on Mopar car projects and helping him out.
Their friendships over the years were true and valued, and when nobody else could they revived Jim's flagging spirits. Jim was creative as well, designing and building a wheelchair-carrying motorcycle that he drove in the summer months.
Jim leaves behind loving sisters Margaret (Tom), Barbara and Jennifer, and nieces and nephews Matt, Christine, Jordan, Randi and Rachel, and their children. He will be dearly missed by his ever devoted aunts Doris, Mary, Norma and Wilma.
Our family wish to thank Dr. Ross and all the doctors, nurses and paramedics who helped Jim over the years. We are especially grateful for the devoted and excellent care provided by wonder women Tammy Balan, Carol Fulcher and Kim Larsen, and other special homecare nurses.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the GF Strong Rehab Centre (at vghfoundation.ca) is appreciated.
