January 5, 1947 - July 13, 2022
James Hardman, 75, passed away peacefully at Surrey Memorial Hospital on July 13, 2022, after a long battle with cancer.
Roy is survived by his wife Heather, sons Tim (Judith), Andy (Leanne), and Bill (Olivia), grandchildren Max, Lily, Sophie, Arlo, Odin, Leela, and Jane, and sister Darlene (Don).
Roy was born on January 5, 1947, in Vancouver. Growing up in White Rock, he met Heather, the love of his life, in high school. They married in 1969.
After graduating from UBC, Roy pursued a career in education and spent over 30 years in the Surrey School District, first as a teacher, then as a principal until his retirement in 2002.
In retirement, Roy loved travelling and camping, and he continued to do the things he'd always loved: spending time with family (especially grandkids) and friends, telling bad jokes, playing songs on repeat, and rooting for the Canucks.
As Roy's health deteriorated, his family was fortunate to spend meaningful time with him reminiscing and laughing. He said that he couldn't have hoped for a better a life. Roy was beloved by those who shared that life with him - family, friends, colleagues - because he was so kind, generous, and fun to be around. Roy was a great husband, father and role model, and grandfather. He will be dearly missed.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, July 20.
