It is with great sorrow that we announce
the peaceful passing of Janice (Janet) Fric on Thursday, June 29th, 2017 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Born to Alex and Anna Baran in
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Janet was the
youngest in a tight knit family of eight. She had four brothers and two sisters.
Janet started out her career as
a hairdresser but soon decided this path was not for her. Instead, she found her passion as an elementary
school teacher where she worked in The Pas, Manitoba. It was here that she met her husband George Fric whom she married on July 1, 1972 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In 1978, Janet and her family moved to B.C. and eventually settled in White Rock. After raising her four daughters she eventually took up teaching again as a substitute teacher at Star of the Sea Elementary School. Over the last few years, Janet worked at Rosemary’s Cottage where she focussed her energy and extensive knowledge into researching and classifying collectibles and antiques.
Family and friends were the heart of Janet. Her home was an open door for everyone and through the years
family, friends and even friends of friends visited and were warmly welcomed. She took the extra time to
know people and to listen to people, both young and old. Janet always went the extra mile to take care of people. She loved celebrating special ccassions and added her own special detail to every party; Christmas was her speciality - her decorated house, chocolates and Christmas dinners were second to none. Janet loved antiques and acquired a vast knowledge and expertise in the field. Travelling became a favourite pastime for Janet
and she was able to enjoy many trips overseas with her girls. Most of all, her grandchildren were a real source of
joy for Janet.
Janet will be forever missed by her four daughters Jennifer (Chris), Sara (Steven), Anna (Jason) and Teresa
(Nick), her nine grandchildren Amelia, Jack, Gemma, Samuel, Ava, Britton, Noah, Jake, and Maren as well as
many extended family members and friends. Janet was predeceased by her loving husband George Fric, her
parents and her brother Nick.
Prayers will be offered on Thursday July 13, 2017 at 7 pm and funeral services on Friday July 14, 2017 at 11 am - both at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. The family wishes to extend its thanks to the Fraser Valley Cancer Centre and the Intensive Care Unit at Peace Arch Hospital and all who shared their kindness, help and best wishes.
