December 1, 1933 - November 12, 2018
Joan Elizabeth Bodie passed away quietly and peacefully on November 12, 2018 in her suite at the Whitecliffe Residence in South Surrey after a valiant struggle with dementia. Joan was courageous and resilient to the end. Throughout her life Joan made a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.

Joan was born in Lacombe Alberta. Joan met her husband Norman Alexander Bodie in Alberta and they married on March 31, 1956 in Lacombe. During their marriage Joan and Norman lived in Manitoba and then in Quebec where they raised their family. Joan and Norman retired to South Surrey in 1987 to the newly established 150B Street neighborhood and introduced our neighborhood to the glorious delight of Joan's famous home- made nuts and bolts. The newly arrived Bodies embraced an active volunteer spirit with years of service for the Peace Arch Hospital. Joan and Norman moved to the Whitecliffe Residence in 2009.

Joan was pre-deceased by her parents George Ernest Brooks and Marjorie Fay Brooks as well as her husband Norman Bodie. Joan is survived by her Brother Jack (Helen) of Lacombe Alberta, eldest son Bruce (Eden and their sons Cody, Jesse and Zach residing on Vancouver Island), daughter Kathy residing in the Okanagan (and her son Jeremy residing in Alberta), and youngest son Garth residing in Alberta (Tammy and their son Gavin as well as Gavin's wife Pam and Joan's great grandson Gradyn) all residing in Alberta.

Thank you to the wonderful 150B Street neighbours (the Kearney's, the Thomas's, the Vander Doe's, the Kinloch/ Mitchell's) who provided great support to Joan. Great appreciation to the Team Bodie companions who helped keep Joan living independently and then transitioning into care (Dawn Livingston, Donna McKinley, Mary Anne Shepherd, Mary McGillis, Carmen Tessier. Linda Minaker, Suzyn Regan, Karen Mott and Susan Foster). The family thanks the wonderful staff at Whitecliffe Residence for all the care and support provided to Joan- particularly in the last months as dementia created many challenges to her daily life.

A Celebration of Life service for Joan Bodie will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 1pm at the First Memorial Fraser Heights Chapel located at 14835 Fraser highway in Surrey. The service will have Norman's nephew Mark Bodie presiding. A reception will follow the memorial service. Joan often reminded those she encountered of some very wise words - "Cherish all your happy memories- they make a fine cushion for old age".
