With deep sadness in our hearts we bid farewell to our sister, Joanne, who passed away in Peace Arch Hospital on January 13, 2018 after a long battle with ill health.
Although Joanne left us at far too young an age she is, at last, free of her suffering and is now, finally, at peace.
Born in Montreal, Joanne was the youngest of three children. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1957 and to Toronto in 1960.
In 1990 she, along with her dearest friend Anne Scott, moved to the Surrey-White Rock area.
Joanne ended her working career with Surrey Parks and Recreation as a Recreation Assistant at the South Surrey pool. Her warm and open nature always made the guests feel so welcome and she was able to forge close and continuing friendships with many folks whom she regarded as "family."
Joanne was predeceased by her parents, Jeanne and Lewis, and dear friends Anne Scott and Karen (KC) Conquergood.
She leaves behind her sister Carole (Bob), brother Dan (Chris), niece Alexandra (Marawan), nephews Oliver, Robert (Marie), Gordon, Chuck (Adriane) and Tom (Meghan). Joanne is especially remembered by Katherine Canning whom she affectionately referred to as "her daughter".
The family thanks Catherine Elliott, Elaine MacPherson, Gwen McClelland, Reid Youngberg, Dawne Haddon-Perry, Gwen Wareing, and Dave Mackie for always being there when Joanne needed support. Thank you also to Rupi and Ruby for providing invaluable in-home care for Joanne in her final months.
A memorial service will take place at First Memorial Funeral Services - Fraser Heights Chapel (tea room), 14835 Fraser Highway, Surrey, BC on Saturday, January 27th, 2018 at noon.
