Dick Smith, born September 15, 1934, peacefully passed away on August 20, 2024. He was surrounded by loved ones, who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
Dick is deeply missed by his loving family. He is survived by his wife Catherine, children Lynda (Donnie), Gayle (Gary), Karen, Kevin, Stephen (dec.) and Braden (Kayla), grandchildren Erica, Erin, Christina, Andrew, Sean, Donnie, Ryan, Laine, Sawyer & Stockwell, great grandchildren, Evan, Owen, Emma, Cole, Taylor & Caleb, and his cherished dogs, Toby & Dozer.
Dick was born in Ewell, UK, and spent his childhood in southern England. This is where he developed his great love for nature, animals, and later, motorcycles and British cars. He joined the National Service at the age of 18 when conscription was in full force, for a duration of two years. Dick moved to Canada in the early 1960's and settled down in the Lower Mainland. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Dick. He loved skiing, golf, hockey, gardening and especially dogs. He also thoroughly enjoyed his time volunteering for Semiahmoo Minor Hockey. Dick touched many lives and will be remembered with love by all who knew him.
Our family would like to thank the amazing staff at Melville Hospice, who provided comfort during some very difficult times.
The family will be having a private Celebration of Life, and greatly appreciate the outpouring of condolences.
