STEWART - DR. JOHN RAY

January 12, 1918 - June 24, 2007

Ray went to be with the Lord, leaving behind a family that adored him. He is survived by Christina (his wife of 63 years), sister Olive (Bob), brother Charlie (Ruth), sister in law Margaret, sister in law Alice (Stan), six children: Rosemary (Lynn), Marg (George), Ken (Jane), David (Elizabeth), Rob (Karen) and Bruce (Liz), along with 22 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Ray was born to John and Mary Stewart in Nanaimo, moving to Fraser Mills (Coquitlam) at an early age. After graduation he took teacher training, then entered the army, where he served in the artillery and intelligence corps in WW II. Following the war he and Chris moved to White Rock, where they raised their children and helped to establish and give leadership to the Evangelical Free Church. During the following years he was employed as a teacher, principal and district administrator in Surrey, all while completing his Ph.D. at the U. of Washington. He also spent 14 years as a professor at the U. of Lethbridge, where once again he provided church leadership. Ray left a lasting impression with everyone he knew through his loving, godly nature, his wisdom and integrity and, above all, by his love for his Saviour, Jesus Christ.

A service in celebration of Ray's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 3 at the N. Delta Free Church, at 11300 84 Ave., Delta.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dr. Ray Stewart Scholarship Fund at Trinity Western Seminary.
