Kathy Brcic, 91, of South Surrey, British Columbia passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 2, 2016 surrounded by her family at the Irene Thomas Hospice in Delta, British Columbia. She was born on September 9, 1924 in Maovice Croatia, to Ivan and Joka Misic. Kathy is predeceased by her husband Ivan in 2000 and her brother Nikola in 2010. She is survived by her children Bo (Janet), Tom (Elena), Vlado (Penny), Tony (Cheryl) and Ana (Keith), grandchildren Kris, Katrina (Ben), Rob, Janelle, Marley, Emily, Justine (Rob), Michael and Dan, and great grandchild Matea. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends in White Rock, Saskatchewan, Germany and Croatia.
Kathy's husband Ivan escaped communist Yugoslavia for a better life, arriving in Canada in 1958. Kathy followed him a year later on her own with their three young boys. During that time they made their way through many refugee camps and faced many hardships to be with Ivan in Canada. She arrived in Quebec City on April 08, 1959 and from there took a train to Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. They eventually settled in Regina, Saskatchewan where she worked tirelessly to raise her five children and support her hard working husband. Many will remember her smile, witty sense of humor and loveable accent. Shortly after retirement in 1989, she moved to White Rock, British Columbia to be with her children and grandchildren. Kathy was and always has been a pillar of strength for her family and this was demonstrated by her strong desire to live independently for the last 16 years. Kathy was deeply devoted to her family and fulfilled their lives daily. She created an unsurpassed loving legacy and her beautiful life will be forever cherished by her family. A special thank you to the staff and nurses at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, British Columbia and the Irene Thomas Hospice in Delta, British Columbia. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Irene Thomas Hospice Society would be appreciated. A Mass and a celebration of her life will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Gardens of Gethsemani, 15800 32 Ave. Surrey, BC.
